Dogs in Our Foster Care Program
The dogs listed below are in our foster program. The foster home provides a transition period between life in the animal shelter and the new, permanent home. The dogs are given the opportunity to learn any needed social skills and to receive the much needed love, shelter, and medical care they deserve.
If you would like more information on any of the dogs in our foster program, begin by completing our adoption questionnaire and reading about our Adoption Process. The
adoption questionnaire is the first step in our adoption process, whether you are interested in a particular foster dog or are just beginning to explore the option of adopting a rescued GSP.
Not sure if you are ready to adopt? Perhaps you are interested in fostering? While we always need foster homes, the need is even more acute because of the foreclosure crisis and general economic situation.

Pointed Homeward
Axel is part of our Pointed Homeward program! He’s been in rescue quite a while, and a Fairy Dogmother has come forward to sponsor his adoption donation so that his new family can use that money towards his (required) training.
Axel is a 4-year-old drop dead gorgeous male GSP. Unfortunately Axel has some compulsive behaviors that make him act differently from other dogs. We are starting him on medication to hopefully help him overcome some of his issues. Right now Axel would do best in a home with adults and teenaged children. He needs to be the only dog (he can live with cats.) Axel LOVES to play fetch and is a fantastic running partner. He can be aloof, but will still hang out with you on the couch and watch some TV.

FAQs.

Bennet's an 8-year-old male GSP who found himself in the slammer, we mean shelter. He's now safe in a foster home and is in good health. Whew! At about 50 lbs. he's on the smaller side which is nice. There are so many great things to say about Bennet. He loves people and is great with kids. He has lived with four, the youngest being 6. Bennet loves to play and has plenty of energy. He loves to play fetch and will carry a stuffed toy around in his mouth. This wonderful chap is housebroken and hasn't chewed on or gotten into anything he shouldn't. Cats are a fun chase game for Bennet, but he hasn't tried to hurt the cat he's living with. He likes to be with his people and would do best in a home where someone is around much of the time. Bennet would enjoy living with a well-matched doggy buddy. He has lived successfully with horses and goats.

Huck is an 8-year-old male who was rescued from the shelter along with another GSP, Finn. Finn's been adopted and Huck is patiently waiting for a permanent home of his own as well. It appears that Huck was not treated very well wherever he hailed from – he was very thin and his coat was in poor condition.
Since he's been in foster care he's learned the joys of sleeping inside and getting plenty of good food. Huck gets along very well with other dogs and is house trained. He loves his toys and almost always seems to carry one around with him. He reminds his foster family of “Old Trusty” from
Lady and the Tramp
. He has not been tested with cats.

Guardian Angels John and Rhonda S – in loving memory of our love bug, Franz
We can't understand why Coconut's still in foster care. We rescued him after his owner died and he ended up in the shelter. Even though he's reportedly 11 years old, he definitely acts much younger--a perfect example of how GSPs go and go and go, regardless of age. In good weight at 54 pounds, his foster says he's faster than a speeding bullet! We think his lightning bolt markings down his back give him his superhero powers. Coconut's been in two foster homes (through no fault of his own) and has gotten along famously with all the dogs in each. No cats for Coconut however. Why don't you give our resident superhero a chance to rescue your family?

Melissa A - from me and GSP Hannah, for Lucy to be a spirit angel for the poor dog who lost its life last week on the freeway.
** ADOPTION PENDING **
Poor 4-year-old Lucy was a loved family pet, but unfortunately she had two torn anterior cruciate ligaments and her family just couldn't afford the surgery to fix her so they had to give her up. Fortunately for Lucy, NorCal GSP Rescue was willing to take her in and pay for those surgeries. We know she has a long, active life ahead. Lucy is recuperating fabulously from surgery #1. We have not yet determined when her second surgery will take place. Lucy is a wonderful girl. She loves people and other dogs and fit right in with her foster family from the get go. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated toward her care so far. Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated to help pay for Lucy's second surgery.
Lucky Lucy's foster family is interested in adopting her!

Robin a senior GSP who's a dream in the house. She loves to take naps and knows the commands "sit", "stay" and "down". Her foster mom gives Robin a massage by playing dot-to-dot on her coat. She also reports that Robin's a great cuddler and when she sings, Robin sings back! Robin's been waiting patiently for quite a while for her new forever home. She'd make a wonderful companion for someone who wants a laid-back GSP past the super-energy stage.

Vera is a super sweet, laid back GSP estimated at 10+ years young. She's living with two other female GSPs and they love going for walks by the stream. Check out Vera's video. Vera was not doing well in the shelter when we rescued her, but she has thrived under the care of her foster mom. After recently spending some time in boarding while her foster mom was away, the staff mentioned that Vera liked hanging out with the other dogs, loved all the people and especially liked the padded pillow they gave her. Apparently she's no fool. Now she's just waiting for you to add her to your family.

Hi, my name is Willow and I'm a senior (estimated to be 10+) female GSP. I am very sweet and I really try to please. I am happy to be in my foster home because I can run and move around. I really love being with my humans and I love to get loving. I am really quiet and enjoy laying on my dog bed when I'm in the house. I am not sure what house training means, but my foster mom says I am getting an A so far. I really want to make people happy. I look like I have not had a good life so far, but now I am really happy. I am excited about having a forever home where I can be loved and just please my people. I am also good in a crate.
